Diploma Degree

Diploma degree in clinical speciality is granted in one of the clinical fields of oral and dental surgery:

- Pedodontics & Dental Public Health and Community Dentistry.

- Oral and Maxillo- Facial Surgery.

- Oral Radiology.

- Oral Medicine and Periodontology.

- Fixed Prosthodontics.

- Operative Dentistry.

- Endodontics.

- Prosthetic Dentistry.

 

Duration:

The duration of study for this specialised Diploma degree in oral and dental surgery is 2 semesters starting the first week of September and ending with the final examinations held in September of the following year.

 

Prerequisites for registration:

1- Holder of a Bachelor degree in oral and dental surgery from one of the faculties of dentistry in the Arab Republic of Egypt or an equivalent degree from one of the institutes or colleges recognised by the university (through the Supreme Council of Universities).

2- The Bachelor degree must be at least 2 years old.

3- Full time student.

 

 

Regulations of the examination:

- Diploma examinations for different fields are held in March and September of every year.

- The student is re-admitted to the examination in the failed subjects only.

  If the student fails in one of the courses of the first semester it is permissible to study the courses of the second semester provided that these courses are no extension to the failed course and  the maximum number of failed courses is two.

 

 

 

Master Degree

 

 

 

Master degree is granted in one of the fields of oral and dental surgery:

- Oral Pathology.

- Oral Biology.

- Dental Materials.

- Orthodontics.

- Pedodontics.

- Dental Public Health and Community Dentistry.

- Oral and Maxillo–Facial  Surgery.

- Oral Radiology.

- Oral Medicine and Periodontology.

- Fixed Prosthodontics.

- Operative Dentistry.

- Endodontics.

- Prosthetic Dentistry.

 

Duration:

Masters Degree study includes two parts:

First Part

- Duration of study is 2 semesters.

- Basic study of advanced practical courses of basic and medical sciences as well as environmental sciences in the field of oral and dental surgery.

Second Part

The duration of study is at least one year during which a specialised practical study and clinical practice is achieved through:

- Study of advanced specialised as well as secondary and complementary courses to the main field of speciality in addition to clinical practices in different fields of speciality in two semesters.

- Preparation of a scientific thesis on a recent subject determined by the department’s council among the subjects of the research plan endorsed by the faculty council. The research has to be well prepared, thoroughly edited, correct in language and inclusive to deduct and analyze results. The thesis is subjected to public discussion after at least one year of its registration and prior to applying for the second semester examination. The credit hours required for the preparation of the thesis is twelve.

The registration for the Masters Degree is cancelled if the student did not pass the first part within two years, or if the student did not register the thesis within three years, and for the second part within five years of its registration. The Masters Degree thesis supervisor can suggest an extension of the registration to a maximum of two semesters provided that the faculty council endorses this suggestion.

 

Prerequisites for registration:

1- Holder of a Bachelors degree in oral and dental surgery from one of the faculties of dentistry in the Arab Republic of Egypt or of its equivalent (through the Supreme Council of Universities) with general grade and grade in the wished subject of speciality of GOODat least. Students applying for the Masters Degree can be accepted if they hold a Diploma Degree in the wished speciality field with general grade of at least GOOD and at least grade VERY GOOD in the subject of speciality.

2- According to the same prerequisites, registration for academic fields can be admitted as follows:

  a. Masters in Oral Pathology and Masters in Oral Biology for holders of Diploma in clinical speciality in Oral Medicine and Periodontology.

  b. Masters in Dental Materials for holders of Diploma in clinical speciality in Prosthetic Dentistry, Operative Dentistry, Fixed Prosthodontics and Endodontics.

3- Full time student.

 

 

Regulations of the examination:

- Examinations are held twice a year in January and June. Students are admitted to the examination for the first part in four terms otherwise the registration is cancelled.

- Students who fail in one part of the Masters degree are admitted to the examination in the failed subjects only.

  The second part examination is held twice a year in January and June. Students are admitted to the second part examination within the period of registration, provided that the thesis has been discussed and accepted prior to applying for the final examination for granting the Degree.

 

 

 

Doctor of Philosophy /Doctor of Dental Science Degree

 

 

 

Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) is offered in the fields of basic dental sciences:

- Oral Pathology.

- Oral Biology.

- Dental Materials.

Doctor of Dental Science Degree (D.D.Sc.) is offered in the fields of clinical dental sciences:

- Orthodontics.

- Pedodontics.

- Detal Public Health and Community Dentistry.

- Oral and Maxillo- Facial Surgery.

- Oral Radiology.

- Oral Medicine and Periodontology.

- Fixed Prosthodontics.

- Operative Dentistry.

- Endodontics.

- Prosthetic Dentistry.

 

Duration:

The right to register for Ph.D./D.D.Sc. degree is dropped after four years from the date of final registration and it can be held for a further year and subjected to another renewal for only one time upon the approval of the University Council for Postgraduate Studies and Research upon a suggestion by the supervisor based on scientific reasons accepted by the university councils within its competence.

The student has to register and prepare a scientific thesis on a new subject. The subject of thesis is chosen among subjects of the research plan submitted from the department and endorsed by the faculty council. The credit hours required for preparing Ph.D. thesis is thirty. The thesis is to be discussed publicly after at least two years by an evaluation committee and its decision has to be endorsed by both faculty and university councils.

 

Prerequisites for registration:

1- Holder of a Masters Degree in the same specialised field desired to register for from one of the faculties of dentistry in the Arab Republic of Egypt or an equivalent degree from one of the institutes recognised by the university (through the Supreme Council of Universities).

2- Holder of a Masters Degree in clinical sciences can register for the Ph.D. Degree in basic sciences.

3- Full time student.

 

 

Regulations of the examination:

- Examinations are held twice a year in May and in August.

- Students can be admitted to the examination four terms otherwise the registration is cancelled.

-

  Students are admitted to the final examination for Ph.D. Degree for an unlimited number of times within the lawful period to grant the degree after the thesis is discussed and accepted.
